Legendary trance duo Cosmic Gate split after 27 years together

After nearly three decades shaping the global trance movement, Cosmic Gate have officially announced the end of their journey as a duo. The German act, formed in 1999 by Claus Terhoeven (Nic Chagall) and Stefan Bossems (Bossi), confirmed via Instagram that they will be parting ways after 27 years of working side by side.

The decision follows Bossi’s choice to step away from touring — a move that ultimately marks his full departure from the project. While one chapter closes, another begins: Nic Chagall will continue forward under the Cosmic Gate name as a solo artist, steering the brand into its next evolution. The statement emphasized that new music is already in development, signaling that the project’s creative momentum remains firmly intact despite the structural change.

Across their career, Cosmic Gate became synonymous with melodic power and festival-scale trance, releasing on heavyweight labels such as Armada Music, Black Hole Recordings, and Anjunadeep. Their discography includes collaborations with scene leaders like Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, and Hardwell, cementing their influence within the upper tier of electronic music. In 2018, Nic Chagall earned a GRAMMY nomination for his remix of Gabriel & Dresden’s “Only Road” featuring Sub Teal, further highlighting the duo’s crossover impact.

Describing the split as one rooted in “deep respect, gratitude, and friendship,” the pair reflected on the rare bond they built both personally and professionally, and the global audience that supported them throughout nearly three decades of touring, releases, and milestone performances.

Looking ahead, all future Cosmic Gate performances will be delivered solo by Nic Chagall. He has already confirmed upcoming appearances under the redefined format and recently announced a dedicated 2026 tour, marking the beginning of a new era for the long-running trance institution.
