The eighth sold-out edition of PAROOKAVILLE was held from July 19th to 21st at Weeze Airport in Germany’s North-Rhine Westphalia region. 225,000 attendees from over 50 countries experienced an unforgettable weekend in their City of Dreams with global stars including Armin van Buuren, Robin Schulz, Hardwell, Steve Aoki, Paul Kalkbrenner and many more. Advance limited Loyalty Sales for next year’s 10th anniversary of PAROOKAVILLE kick off today for anyone who has attended the festival at least once since 2015.
The three days of the festival were each populated by 75,000 Citizens of the City of PAROOKAVILLE, which was expanded this year to create the new “Theatre District” featuring shows and live performances. The imposing Mainstage ran under the motto of “Bill’s Green House”, with fans celebrating Steve Aoki, Timmy Trumpet, Armin van Buuren, Robin Schulz, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and many more. Sunday saw a musical change of pace at Bill’s Factory with performers including Ski Aggu, Alexander Marcus and Heino. The ING Livestream reached several million viewers broadcasting over 100 hours from the City of Dreams.
It all began with the arrival on Wednesday of around half of the total 45,000 campers, and arrivals on both Wednesday and Thursday went off smoothly. On Wednesday evening up to 12,000 campers celebrated the Silent Disco at the PENNY DJ Tower together, while the traditional Thursday pre-party kicked off at the PENNY Square and in Desert Valley.
“Each year, working together with our Citizens, the artists and our partners, we bring a unique city to life. As always, the City of Dreams was again notable for the extremely peaceful party atmosphere. Next year we celebrate PAROOKAVILLE’s 10th anniversary. Preparations for that already began this year with our farewell to Bill’s Factory”, says Bernd Dicks, co-founder and Managing Director of Parookaville.
PAROOKAVILLE brought its Citizens breathtaking Special Appearances
Since this year’s European Cup, saxophonist Andre Schnura has become a major presence on social media. He and his sax travelled throughout Germany entertaining hundreds of thousands of fans at Euro Cup match locations. This led directly to an invitation by mega-star Timmy Trumpet and the Dutch EDM duo W&W to appear with them live on the PAROOKAVILLE Mainstage for an audience of some 50,000 people celebrating out front. The choice of food in the city ranged from snacks to street food to burgers and sweets. Steve Aoki and his pizza concept “Pizzaoki” are regulars by now, joined this year by Alle Farben and Robin Schulz presenting culinary concepts of their own. All three stars visited their food stations either before or after their performances. Robin Schulz even played a surprise 30-minute set before his show on the Mainstage.
There was yet another Secret Gig on Sunday night. Shortly after midnight, CUPRA Deutschland and PAROOKAVILLE surprised the Citizens with a premiere as the roof of the CUPRA Wacky Shack transformed into another stage exclusively for the band Tokio Hotel. Attendees spontaneously celebrated the Kaulitz brothers and their band and the spectacular finale of the festival after five days of lunacy, love and pure joy.
High praise from artists and Citizens alike for the outstanding city concept
In addition to the extraordinary musical line-up, PAROOKAVILLE Citizens can also discover an entire city. Its unique features include the Warsteiner Church, which celebrated one official wedding along with over 3,000 Festival Weddings. Upon entering the grounds, attendees picked up their stamped PAROOKAVILLE passports at the Town Hall. They could then cool off again this year in temps reaching up to 33° C at the City’s own 700m² outdoor swimming pool. The PENNY Vegan Kitchen served over 3,000 vegan dishes, while the PENNY Stores at the campsite moved some 100 tonnes of ice cubes. ING Deutschland made the day of some lucky Citizens who competed at the site and won access to its five-metre tall viewing platform with a perfect view of the Mainstage.
Rising US superstar DJ John Summit celebrated his debut at PAROOKAVILLE this year, playing his only show in Germany at Desert Valley on the festival Friday. After the show he enthusiastically summed up his experience: “The PAROOKAVILLE crowd is unbelievable! Everyone was smiling and happy to be here. They were partying to the music and then the sun went down…it was a very special moment, almost like it was a special effect for my set.”
Parookaville’s longest-serving ambassador Steve Aoki was also thrilled once again: “For me, PAROOKAVILLE is one of the most important festivals in the world. I care so much about it. I’ve been here pretty much from the start, and they recognised me as their ambassador. I just love how they create a complete world. It’s not a festival, it’s a completely different world.”
