In the fast-evolving world of electronic music, only a few names have risen as quickly as Hypaton. Known for his futuristic soundscapes and seamless ability to blend underground energy with mainstream appeal, the Italian DJ and producer has captured the attention of fans. We recently had the chance to sit down with him for an in-depth conversation about his journey, creative process, and the vision that drives his work, offering a closer look at the artist behind the beats.
Can you tell us about your earliest musical memories? What drew you into music as a child?
"My earliest musical memories definitely come from home. My dad played the guitar and was always listening to 70s records, and that really pulled me into music. I was fascinated by how those sounds could change the whole atmosphere around me, and that’s when I felt I wanted to be part of it."
You grew up in a family where music was central and started playing guitar at 5. How did those early experiences shape your sound today?
"Growing up with music around me and starting guitar at 5 definitely shaped the way I approach sound today. The guitar taught me to think melodically from the very beginning, and that’s why melodies are always such a strong part of my tracks. It gave me that instinct to make music feel emotional and alive."
You’ve been producing EDM and trance since 2014. How have those genres evolved for you over time, and what have you learned along the way?
"Back in 2014 it was all about maximal drops and big-room energy. Over time I’ve moved toward a hybrid approach, keeping the trance DNA with big melodies but fewer elements. Simplicity is the key! I learned that space and storytelling hit harder than stacking layers, and that melodies are the thread that make my tracks translate from a festival rig to a phone."
A lot of your recent recognition came through revamping ’90s classics. Why do those tracks resonate with you, and how do you balance nostalgia with innovation?
"Those tracks resonate with me because their vocal melodies are timeless and the lyrics most of the time are so simple. I keep the soul of the original but rework it with modern energy, so it feels fresh while still triggering that nostalgia."
Walk us through your creative process. How do you pick which old vocal samples to rework, and what’s your workflow from idea to finished track?
"I usually look for powerful vocals that carry a lot of energy. Older songs often have a second chorus with small melodic variations from the first that creates a surprise effect for the listener. The first step for me is syncing the vocal to tempo, which isn’t always easy since many of those recordings were tracked live, so it can be a detailed process. Some songs naturally work for a club remix, while others need to be treated with more respect, keeping the sound softer and more melodic to preserve the original vibe. I’ll often start by replicating the original chords and then flip everything, sometimes even changing the key to make it feel fresh. I also love chopping the samples to add variation to the classic chorus, or even to build a completely new one."
You had the incredible opportunity to join David Guetta during his headlining set in Ibiza, to perform your collab 'Together'! How did this experience feel?
"I always like to say that David is my mentor. I learn so much from him and he’s a huge source of inspiration for me. So every time we perform a song together, the emotion of standing by his side is something I’ll never get used to. Playing Together in Ibiza was magical, it’s a track that feels very special to both of us, which made the moment even more beautiful. We’re very proud of it."
Talking of collaborations, how do you approach any collabs? What do you bring, and what do you hope to learn?
"Collabs are amazing, because mixing the art of two or more artists can sometimes be very natural and other times really challenging. But that’s the beauty of it! Finding common ground and building from there. I always try to leave a lot of space for the other artist so I don’t kill their vibe; I’d rather be the one adapting. And you honestly learn so much from collaborations, new sounds, different arrangements, a whole new perspective on music."
Your video for “Be My Lover” went viral very fast. How did that sudden exposure change things for you, both positively and in terms of challenges?
"At the beginning it honestly felt like the dream I had as a kid. The sudden exposure gave me so many opportunities and opened a lot of doors in this world. On the challenge side, of course I started to feel the responsibility of keeping the level high—but I actually enjoy that. I’ve always loved challenges and pushing myself. I went from being a bedroom producer while studying at university to a full-time producer and DJ in such a short time. For me the real challenge has always been against myself, trying to be a better version than I was the day before."
You have a strong online persona and connection with fans. How do you maintain authenticity in the digital age, especially when virality can demand so much?
"My secret is simple: just being myself. I’ve learned that not everything goes viral—some posts work, others don’t. What matters is keeping variety in the content, even if it means fewer likes or views, because otherwise you end up looking like a robot."
What are your artistic goals for the next few years? Any dream collaborations or new directions you want to explore? And what can fans expect from you?
"My main goal is to build a strong fanbase and make sure my fans feel like they’re part of this journey. I’d definitely love to collaborate with artists outside of the electronic world, rappers, soul singers, indie artists. Exploring those crossovers would be really exciting. And for my fans, they can expect me to keep working as hard as I can to make them smile without even realizing it, just by listening to my music."
