Blood Vision is an electronic duo comprised of Brandon Dodds and Sean Jarvis. After meeting in architecture school, the pair transitioned their skills to sculpting cinematic sound design for the dancefloor. Since launching the project in 2023, Blood Vision have supported SVDDEN DEATH and Zeds Dead and their originals have been played to thousands during REZZ’s DJ sets. Last year, Blood Vision made their debut on HypnoVizion with ‘Arachnophobia’ as part of the label’s Auditory Illusion Vol. 1 compilation.
We recently spoke to them about their latest release, ‘Altered Reality’, the moment that sparked the track, and their future plans.
We love the new single 'Altered Reality'. What was the initial idea or moment that sparked the track?
The initial idea started when we created a music production challenge for ourselves during October 2023 called Bloodtober. This challenge consisted of producing one full song a day for 31 days. Each song was inspired by a word prompt list that was primarily used in the art industry called “Inktober”.
How does 'Altered Reality' reflect where Blood Vision is creatively right now?
The song reflects our sound right now by integrating melodic elements and contrasting that with heavily textured drops. Our music incorporates introspective themes and vocals that create a sense of mystery.
Was there a particular mood, place, or experience that shaped the sound of the track?
This song reflects the time we were in where there was a pull between the reality we were living in, and how the world was shifting around us after the lockdown.
If listeners could take away just one feeling after hearing 'Altered Reality', what would you want it to be?
We want the listener to feel a sense of compression and release during the song.
How did you balance experimentation with keeping the track club-ready?
We start with creating a ton of unique sounds in Ableton and then piecing them together to create the groove and make the song danceable.
Did the track evolve a lot from the original demo to the final release?
The mixdown was developed later on to make it hit harder and sound cleaner, but the track stayed the same overall.
Will 'Altered Reality' expand into a bigger project, maybe an EP or album?
No, this was made as a stand alone single that was meant to integrate into the theme and storyline of our overall discography.
What direction do you see Blood Vision heading musically over the next year?
We plan to release more music and continue growing our Night Owl fanbase.
Are there any collaborations you’d love to make happen?
We would love to collaborate with Jkyl & Hyde, Zed’s Dead, Svdden Death, and Rezz.
