The newly revived DJ Awards returned in spectacular fashion for its first edition at Chinois, Ibiza, on October 2nd, marking a successful night of music and celebration. With BBC Radio 1 tastemaker Jaguar and Katie Knight as hosts, the evening was filled with excitement as winners in key categories were announced. Additionally, special Industry Awards were given to legends of the dance music scene. The event, hailed as the 'Oscars of dance music,' was a grand return for the DJ Awards, reaffirming its importance in the industry.
For the first time in four years, the DJ Awards honored deserving winners, with music lovers, industry insiders, and fans joining the star-studded event. After a thrilling summer in Ibiza, the mood was lively, and the night featured memorable acceptance speeches as the awards were presented swiftly. The genre winners included Afro artist Black Coffee, House's Sam Divine, Tech House’s Vintage Culture, Trance legend Armin Van Buuren, Techno’s Sven Vath, Drum and Bass duo Chase and Status, Organic House’s WhoMadeWho, and Progressive House’s Camelphat. The International DJ Of The Year Award went to Fisher, while Miss Monique took home the Breakthrough Award. The Live Act award was given to Roisin Murphy.
In addition to the genre awards, Industry Award winners were selected by a special team of professionals. These awards included the Ibiza Icon Award, presented to Luciano, and the Best Ibiza Party Award, won by David Guetta's "F*** Me I'm Famous" and Future Rave at Hi Ibiza. Other accolades included the Lifetime Achievement Award for Javier Anadon, Ibiza Track of the Summer for Adam Port's "Move feat. Malachiii," and the Global Festival Award, which went to Defected Croatia. Michael Bibi's "One Life" campaign earned the Play It Back Award, and the What’s Hot Global Award was presented to Keinemusik. Gospel Club in New York received the Eye on... USA Award.
The celebration continued with an afterparty featuring performances by Luciano, Cristoph, Mathew Jonson, Ben Sterling, and Manu Gonzalez. Founded in 1998 by José Pascual and Lenny Krarup, the DJ Awards have long been an influential force in the dance music scene. Now, with new ownership and fresh investment, the awards have made a triumphant return in 2024 and are set to expand to new and exciting locations in the coming year.
